We are currently seeking to fill the position of Community Services Coordinator (Future Omro Assistant). They shall be a City employee and be subject to the City's policy for non-represented, hourly employees. This position has been created through action by the Omro City Council for the purpose of serving the City of Omro through event coordination and public and business communication venues at 20 hours per week (part-time). The Community Services Coordinator (Future Omro Assistant) will be required by the City to assist Future Omro a Main Street/Chamber Program, Omro Area Development Corporation (OADC), Omro Business Improvement District (BID), and any other departments of the City as directed. This position will act as liaison between the city and all organizations he/she works with. It is recognized that the Coordinator is a City employee and does not answer directly to these organizations, but instead is working for the City on the organizations’ behalf to ensure their ultimate success. This position reports to the Community Services Coordinator (Future Omro Assistant) and helps ensure those duties are covered in the Director’s absence.
DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND WORK PERFORMED: 1. Serves as core coordinator for the Future Omro and helps to manage Future Omro Board of Directors and Subcommittees, as directed by the board and by the Community Development Director. 2. Provides Future Omro with event coordination, event staff volunteers, issuance of permits and licenses, and contract procurement from vendors. 3. Coordinates event planning needs with the City of Omro Public Works Department, Police Department, Administrative Staff, Parks Department, and various other organizations. 4. Writing, editing, publishing, and distributing the monthly Future Omro newsletter. 5. Serves as the primary point of contact for Future Omro, which involves regular communication via email, written correspondence, telephone calls, and in-person conversations with a diverse mix of Future Omro members. 6. Assists in maintaining both the City of Omro and Future Omro websites on a continual and timely basis. Frequently updates the websites to provide effective community, business, economic development, and tourism based information. Assists city departments with providing up to date information for their web pages and forms. 7. Distributes promotional materials. 8. Assists Community Development Director with special projects and day-to-day activities. 9. Provides clerical assistance for the Director, including, but not limited to telephone communication, billing, database management, city newsletter, and mailings.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION 1. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution, consensus building, oral and written communication, computer keyboarding skills, and the ability to work with members of the community. 2. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, employees, the public, civic organizations, and business entities. 3. Must have a positive, can-do attitude, with an ability to work as part of a team. 4. Ability to work in an office environment, organize and complete a multitude of tasks under minimal direct supervision. 5. Must possess strong organizational skills with attention to detail, interpersonal skills, mental alertness, accuracy, good judgment, honesty, commitment to task, discretion and integrity, with the ability to multi-task. 6. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective, productive working relationships with city officials, employees, volunteers, board members, business members, and community members. 7. Must have the ability to recruit, train, and provide direction and oversight for a multitude of volunteers. 8. Must have an excellent understanding of business arithmetic as well as basic accounting and daily bookkeeping. 9. Must have the ability to maintain records and prepare reports, as needed. 10. Must have the capability to understand and maximize the efficient flow of information. 11. Must have strong computer skills and familiarity with website design and maintenance. 12. Must have proficient use of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, and Adobe Pro. 13. Must possess, or have the ability to possess, a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License. 14. This position requires the occasional use of your personal vehicle with reimbursement for mileage per the federal standard mileage rate. 15. Must pass medical examination requirement for specified occupational grouping, and toxicology screening prior to hire.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING 1. Minimum high school diploma, associate or bachelors degree preferred. 2. Overall educational or employment background with demonstrated capacity for effective communication, project development, and performance. 3. Prefer experience in managing budgets, fundraising, previous experience working for, or with, a chamber of commerce and or board of directors.
WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Environment is normally a typical office setting, but events will involve walking, moderate occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds), pushing and pulling of materials. 2. Requires public contact with frequent standing for long periods of time, walking, stooping, and bending, with occasional work in an outdoor environment, along with possible exposure to inclement weather conditions such as extreme heat, humidity, snow, ice, and rain. 3. Requires working holidays in conjunction with events, and working on some evenings and weekends.
The starting pay will be based on experience and qualifications. No benefits are included.
